EMD continuously strives to improve the reliability and durability of its engines. As horsepower increases, so does the demand on engine components. The valve bridge plays a critical role in power assembly performance as it operates millions of cycles every year. Valve bridge design impacts valve train reliability, exhaust emissions, fuel consumption and combustion efficiency. Improperly set valve bridges or non-OEM valve bridges can be detrimental to power assembly performance and life, often resulting in costly engine damage. EMD has done extensive analysis on gear train dynamics and valve bridge performance, and has developed this new valve bridge assembly. This bridge includes redesigned lash adjusters that are faster filling with increased wear resistance. Worn adjusters lead to higher leak down times, more lift loss, and possible valve damage. This bridge also features an extended free length spring which allows for proper setting of lash adjusters to the midrange of their travel on new and rebuilt EMD cylinder heads.
